St. Joseph School of Nursing graduates 116th class
The St. Joseph School of Nursing, located on the campus of Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence, held graduation ceremonies for its 116th class on May 11, 2018. Close to 1,000 family members and friends attended the celebration at the Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul in Providence. Reverend Timothy Reilly, J.C.L., Chancellor, Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island, and St. Joseph School of Nursing Dean Betty T. Sadaniantz, DNP, RN, presented diplomas, pins, and awards to 85 members of the graduating class of 2018 -- the last 43 graduates of the three year curriculum and the first 42 graduates of the newly-revised two year curriculum.
Diane Cocozza Martins, PhD, RN, delivered the commencement address. Lauren O’Flanagan, Class of 2018 New Curriculum class Valedictorian, offered the welcoming address and Carly VanOrden, Class of 2018 Old Curriculum class Valedictorian, delivered the farewell address. Tabitha Walker and Jessica Marfeo were Salutatorians for the Class of 2018 Old Curriculum and Class of 2018 New Curriculum classes respectively.
The following awards were given to the members of the 116th graduating class:
- The Faculty Certificate of Merit for outstanding ability in Medical/Surgical Nursing was awarded to Treasure Asian (Class of 2018 Old Curriculum) and Lauren O’Flanagan (Class of 2018 New Curriculum).
- The Faculty Certificate of Merit for outstanding ability in Mental Health Nursing was awarded to Treasure Asian (Class of 2018 Old Curriculum) and Lauren O’Flanagan (Class of 2018 New Curriculum).
- The Faculty Certificate of Merit for outstanding ability in Maternal Child Health Nursing was awarded to Carly Van Orden (Class of 2018 Old Curriculum) and Lauren O’Flanagan (Class of 2018 New Curriculum).
- The Mother Mary Evangelist award given by the Alumni Association of St. Joseph School of Nursing in recognition of scholastic achievement, professional leadership and nursing performance was awarded to Tabitha Walker (Class of 2018 Old Curriculum) and Jessica Marfeo (Class of 2018 New Curriculum).
