Student Services Religion
The School of Nursing is a Catholic school, however there is
no discrimination in the admission of students on the grounds
of religious belief.
The hospital chapel is available to students at all hours. The
students have the opportunity for assisting at the Celebration
of the Eucharist, frequenting the Sacraments, and / or private
devotion.
Guidance / Counseling
The guidance/counseling program is designed to assist students
as they cope with the new demands placed upon them as they pursue
a career as a professional nurse.
The faculty endeavors to provide an environment in which the
student is comfortable in examining personal abilities and limitations
and also with self-exploration of values and goals. Emphasis is
placed upon helping the student achieve feelings of self worth
and growth.
Health Services
There is an organized health program which is available to provide
medical care and health needs of the student.
An entrance physical examination, including laboratory studies,
tuberculin testing and immunizations are performed. The student
or his/her parent/guardian assumes charges for all other health
needs. Students are required to submit proof of health/hospital
insurance on a yearly basis, or they will not be allowed to attend
clas or clinical.
Learning Resource Center
The Learning Resource Center is a combination of four areas which
are utilized to enhance student learning. These four areas include:
- Health Science Library: Located on the first
floor of Marian Hall, the library contains an up-to-date collection
of reference books, periodicals and clinical texts on medical,
nursing and allied health fields. Computer literature searches
are available. In addition, the libraries of Rhode Island College
and the Community College of Rhode Island are available for
use by our students.
- Nursing Arts Lab: Set up like a hospital
room, this area provides the student with hands-on experience
to learn nursing skills prior to going onto the hospital units
to care for patients. The NAL is utilized to teach new skills,
remediate when needed, and allow students to practice skills
at individually scheduled times if necessary.
- Computer Laboratory: Has several computers
for student use and has internet access.
- Audiovisual Laboratory: Utilized as an adjunct
to the Nursing Arts Lab, students view videos of specific skills
prior to their NAL experience. The AV Lab is also available
to students who want to review previously shown videos.
- Laptop Purchase Program: Freshman Students
entering the nursing program are required to purchase a laptop
computer. These laptop computers will be used to access the
School of Nursing wireless server and software.
Commuter Facilities
A lounge with a television, radio and copy machine are available
on the second floor of Marian Hall. An additional lounge is located
in the lower level with vending machines. Lockers are provided
for student use in the basement of Marian Hall, adjacent to the
classrooms.
Discounts
- Medications may be purchased at the hospital pharmacies at
a reduced cost.
Student Handbook
A handbook is made available to every student on entrance to the
school.
