Process for LPN Advanced Placement
A graduate of an NLN accredited/state approved program for Licensed
Practical or Vocational Nursing may be eligible for admission
to St. Joseph School of Nursing with advanced standing.
Admission Criteria
- A completed application with non-refundable application
- Three letters of recommendation, preferably one from an employer,
one from a teacher, and one personal
- Official high school transcript or GED
- Official transcript from an NLN accredited/state approved
School of Practical/Vocational Nursing with a grade point average
of "C" or above
- Validation of successful completion of basic high school or
college Chemistry
- Validation of successful completion of the Licensing Examination
for Practical/Vocational Nursing
- A letter from an employer documenting a minimum of one full
year of paid work as an LPN within the last three years
- Completion of the HESI Entrance examiniation.
This test consists of 4 parts, mathematics, reading comprehension,
vocabulary and grammar. Once an application has been processed,
the registrar will send a notice of the testing date. The test
is given at the School of Nursing. This test may be taken only
once during the application period. Preparation books are available.
The HESI Admission book is available online at the HESI website.
Other preparation books [Preparation for Nursing School Admission
tests] may be used and are available at local bookstores.
- Applications who have taken any of the following college based
curriculum requirements within 7 years prior to application
may receive transfer credits by submission of an official transcript
validating successful completion of same with a minimum grade
od "C".

Advanced Placement Process
Once notice of acceptance into the program has been received,
the process of advanced placement proceeds in the following manner:
- Payment of a non-refundable registration fee to the School
of Nursing
- Completion of a pre-entrance physical exam in Employee Health
Clinic at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital
- Completion of a Transition course. (A short computer orientation
will be provided prior to doing the program)
- Validation of successful completion of the Math Accu - Placer
Exam at CCRI or Math 0500 as a pre-requisite for the Dosage
Calculations course at CCRI.
Criteria for LPN to Enter as a
Level II (Junior) Student
If an LPN wishes to enter the program into Level II as a full
time student the following courses, which are prerequisites
or within the Level I curriculum, must be successfully completed

student with only 4 semesters of nursing courses to complete,

completed prior to entry, in addition to the above courses:

Credit From Previous College Work
Transferable Credits
The following courses from colleges in the local are transferable
to St. Joseph School of Nursing provided the student achieves
a final grade within the "C" range. Similar courses
from other institutions will be considered for transfer by the
admissions committee when a course description is included with
the transcript.
