St. Joseph School of Nursing
Receives National Accreditation

St. Joseph Health Services of RI is pleased to announce that the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission has granted the St. Joseph School of Nursing an eight-year continuing accreditation. The School of Nursing had to demonstrate compliance with a number of rigorous curriculum, program and facility requirements

The St. Joseph School of Nursing is the state's only hospital-based, 3-year diploma program. Upon receiving their diploma, graduates are then eligible to take the national licensing exam for registered nurses. Graduating an average of 35 students each year, the School of Nursing, founded in 1898 has prepared thousands of nurses for clinical practice.

"By receiving accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, the St. Joseph School of Nursing program is measured against the highest national standards of quality in nursing education," said National League for Nursing Accreditation Executive Director Sharon J. Tanner, EdD, RN.

"We are pleased and proud that our School of Nursing has been reaccredited," stated John Fogarty, Executive Vice President and Acting President of the school's corporate parent, St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island. "Our school has been an important resource in Rhode Island as it, like many states in the nation, face a critical shortage of nursing personnel."

The School of Nursing is led by Carol Ross, RN, acting executive director, who oversees 15 faculty and staff members and more than 90 active students.
